Hats off to the NFL’s Houston Texans for promoting Amy Palcic to senior director of communications. Palcic is the NFL’s only female director of their team’s media relations department compared to the NBA which boasts three women heading up the media relations.
Palcic has been with Houston for four years and prior to that she spent a decade working up the ladder of the Cleveland Browns media relations team. She is the first woman to run the media relations department for the Texans.
According to the NFL about two thirds of their teams have a woman on their media relations staff in some capacity.
Who says that the NFL is just for boys?
But it gets even better in Houston. The city now has sole ownership of two women running the media relations programs for their major sports teams.
Tracey Hughes is the Houston Rockets director of media relations. She is one of three women heading NBA media relations departments, along with Sarah Melton of the Mavericks and Julie Fie of the Suns.
You see girls, sports is not just for professional athletes! If you have a love for the game- any game- you can likely carve out the path you want.
