This past weekend marked the opening of the 20th season of the WNBA. Whoa! That’s pretty incredible.
Let’s put that into perspective:
- 20 years ago I was not even married yet.
- 20 years ago we were still using dialup for internet.
- 20 years ago cell phones were not mainstream.
- 20 years ago social media were two separate words/things; like let’s be social while media meant newspapers and television.
So how is the WNBA doing? That seems like a complicated question so I’ll leave the experts to answer it here.
Here’s what I know for sure: The WNBA was on the cover of ESPN Magazine recently in honor of it’s twentieth celebration and is still rocking for female ballers. I love that! I wish I could see more coverage on the television. I wish that my city had a team.
My ultimate wish: women and sports were more popular! Our young girls need to see more of the above and less bickering plastic housewives.
But I digress. For now, let’s just celebrate twenty years of women’s hoops. Be sure to check out this oral history on espnW on how the WNBA is moving forward.
