Happy New Year.
How many times in the past few days have you heard these words or read the headline: New Year, New You?
For me, I cannot even begin to count. If I had to guess though, it’s been about a dozen or so. And maybe that’s because I’ve been busy scouring the internet lately for work and have somehow managed to get in some extra digs.
Truth is, I think I kept reading it and hearing it because I need to just write about it. Side note: I’m all for self-improvement, moving forward and making positive and healthy changes in our worlds. No doubt about that.
But new year, new you…well that’s just crap!
There’s something inherently wrong in this statement. Actually its more than one thing, but for now I’m just going to start…
We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Remember?
How do you suppose our Creator takes to this kind of message?
He doesn’t really. But we do. We get ensnared in the physical. All the time.
So here’s my wish for you for 2018:
Everyday when you wake up, repeat these words to yourself: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Leave a sticky note on your mirror and dresser. Put it all over the place if you have to. It will change the way you move in this world.
Remind your family. Your friends. They, too, are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are all the same. We are all special. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made.
- Feeling the pinch of deadlines, exams? Give yourself some extra time to prepare. Preparation builds confidence. Confidence makes you feel good and you will do better. Prep is everything!
- Want to be better at something? Practice, practice, practice. There are no shortcuts. If you truly love it then it won’t be that hard anyway. Just play. With discipline and pride.
Remember: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I will give my all to whatever I am doing. It is what I want to do and it is who I am made to be.
- Mind your thoughts like you would a thief in the night. Be vigilant! Don’t let one negative thought get carried away and turn into two. You control them! It’s when you are vulnerable— and, say, tired or having a bad day— that they awaken.
Remember: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Keep telling yourself this, because it is true. It is right!
My wish for you is that in everything you do, you remember this precious gift we have all been given. Love. It is why we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. It is who we are. I hope that you give love back to yourself first and everything else falls into place. It is who you are!
