A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
This verse from Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) is comforting, isn’t it? A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
Our hearts point us in the direction. God chooses our right path and guides us.
So I’m driving North on Author Boulevard having quite a good time thank you very much. Then a fog rolls in and the once clear and open road turns serpentine. I’m white-knuckling all the way.
Now, all of a sudden, I’m heading South on Author Boulevard. Things aren’t clear at all.
It’s difficult to have the wheel but not really be in control. But it doesn’t have to be.
God certainly doesn’t want it to be. He wants us to know, He always has our back. But in our ambitious attempts to manage and control, we forget.
So maybe He has to nudge us just a little. Remind us of why and what we are here for.
Come back to me, He says. I will guide you, He promises. Come back to me- through prayer. Through love. Forgiveness. Just come back. Whatever it takes. So I pray:
Dear Lord, please keep me centered in my faith. Thank you for always having my back and leading me when I’m most in need. Give me the strength and courage to persevere and help me be my best self. In your name I pray, Thy will be done.
